Exemplifying good character and work ethic is important for any business.
United Way of Martin County's CHARACTER COUNTS! program and sponsor Martin Health System, in cooperation with the Business Development Board of Martin County, are seeking local businesses whose leadership and staff promote and inspire in its professional culture, business climate, and business relationships a commitment to good character and workplace ethic.
To qualify for the Business of Character Award, the business must be located in Martin County and cannot have been a recipient of the award in the previous five years.
Previous winners include Lively Orthodontics, Seacoast Bank, Lesser, Lesser, Landy & Smith, Martin Health System, Crary Buchanan, and Hooks Construction. Eligible businesses are asked to complete a nomination application which can be downloaded at unitedwaymartin.org/charactercounts or by contacting Holly Laiben, director of CHARACTER COUNTS!, at 772-283-4800, ext. 234.
Nominations are due by Wed., Aug. 23. Finalists will be notified by Sept. 1. Three finalists, including one winner, will be announced during the Business Development Board of Martin County's business recognition luncheon this fall.
Since 1995, United Way of Martin County's CHARACTER COUNTS! program has been focused on building a community of good character. Although highly identified with schools, CHARACTER COUNTS! is an initiative for people of all ages and walks of life and is embraced by government, law enforcement and businesses in Martin County. CHARACTER COUNTS! encourages everyone to uphold the Six Pillars of Character - Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship - as they go on with their daily lives.
