Big Reveal, Bigger Impact!
United Way of Martin County Invests Over $2.39 Million in Community Programs
STUART, FL – The echoes of celebration still linger after an unforgettable morning at United Way of Martin County's Big Reveal – the thrilling moment when local agencies discover their funding fate and the amount of support they'll receive. On Friday, June 26, more than 120 attendees gathered at The Kane Center for this special annual event, sponsored by Capstone IT and STS Aviation Group. With much pride and anticipation, 35 community impact grants were awarded to 24 nonprofit agencies totaling $1,195,002, showcasing how, together, we are shaping a brighter future for every corner of our community.
United Way rallies individuals and organizations to support the Community Impact Fund, its annual campaign that fuels a diverse range of programs focused on enhancing the education, health and financial stability in Martin County. From child literacy and mental health to rent relief and senior support services, every investment makes a difference in the lives of our neighbors in need.
The Big Reveal is about more than funding programs. It is the culmination of a community-driven process that helps ensure every dollar raised is invested where it can make the greatest impact.
Funding decisions are not made by United Way staff. Instead, grant applications are evaluated by Citizens Review Panels made up of United Way donors and community volunteers who conduct site visits, review programs and make funding recommendations. Those recommendations are then reviewed by the Fund Distribution Committee before being presented to the Board of Directors for final approval.
Nearly 40 donors and volunteers participated in the 2026–2027 Citizens Review Process, helping ensure grant funding decisions aligned with United Way's mission, funding priorities and the needs of our community.
"United Way of Martin County is unique because of our thorough review process and commitment to collaboration, transparency and creating lasting change,” said Carol G. Houwaart-Diez, President & CEO of United Way of Martin County. “We bring together diverse groups to tackle the most pressing issues, ensuring that every contribution goes directly towards making a meaningful impact in the lives of residents."
Awarding community impact grants is just one of the ways United Way addresses our community's unmet needs. When combined with the amount invested through donor designations, the United Way Foundation, and internal programs – including Ride United, Volunteer United, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), United Way Toys For Tots Holiday Project, and emergency or disaster relief – the organization’s total community investment reached a remarkable $2,391,238.
As United Way of Martin County looks ahead, the focus remains on building partnerships and leveraging resources to address the evolving needs of our community. Through the collaborative efforts of its annual campaign and support from donors, volunteers, sponsors, partners, and community members, United Way will continue to take steps towards a brighter future where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
