STUART, FL – More than 40 local leaders gathered to celebrate the power of philanthropy at United Way of Martin County’s 2025 Donor Appreciation Luncheon, held at Bonefish Grill on November 12. The annual event honors donors who invest $1,000 or more each year to strengthen the community.
United Way President and CEO Carol G. Houwaart-Diez shared updates on the organization’s initiatives, including disaster recovery efforts and advocacy on federal budget cuts affecting local nonprofits. In response to these cuts, United Way provided additional funding to programs such as House of Hope’s pantry and Council on Aging’s Meals on Wheels and congregate meal sites. Carol also shared progress on the Ride United transportation program, which helps residents access essential services.

“This year, gifts from nearly 400 leadership donors comprised more than half of the $2 million United Way of Martin County invested in local programs,” Carol said. “Thanks to their generosity, we were able to provide extra support to essential services affected by federal budget cuts and continue helping neighbors access food, transportation, and other critical resources.”
Attendees enjoyed a delicious meal prepared by Bonefish Grill, whose staff volunteered their time and whose management generously donated the cost of the luncheon back to United Way. The gathering provided a chance for donors to connect, share stories of impact, and celebrate the collective difference their support makes across Martin County.
Lesser, Landy, Smith and Siegel sponsored the luncheon for the 15th consecutive year, underscoring the importance of community partnerships in supporting United Way’s mission.
“Events like this are more than just a luncheon,” Carol said. “They are a celebration of generosity and a reminder of what we can achieve when we come together to invest in the well-being of our neighbors.”
