The United Way of Martin County presented 44 Community Impact Grants totaling $898,497 in funding for the upcoming year. Thirty-two agencies will use the funds awarded to implement local programs aimed at improving education, health and financial stability for Martin County residents. Grants were presented at the Big Reveal sponsored by Capstone IT.
For Martin County residents struggling to put food on the table, a new resource is available – the Martin County Food Finder Map. Created by United Way of Martin County Students United Member and Clark Advanced Learning Center senior Evan McCarthy, the map indicates where free meals are available, including food pantries, soup kitchens, food for seniors and food for children when they are out of school.
The federal poverty line (FPL) is used to determine eligibility for aid and social services and also provides an important benchmark to know how many Americans are struggling financially each year, and over time.

Nonprofit organizations feeling the pinch of economic pressures are turning to United Way for funding
As it reviews a record number of applications for grants, the United Way of Martin County says the increase in requests reflects the strain on nonprofit organizations that help the community.

Collectively, their generosity represents 40 percent of United Way of Martin County’s annual campaign with gifts that total more than $1.4 million.
